Synthetic diamonds produced using boronized graphite have approximately 15% higher compressive strength (e.g., for 40/50 mesh diamonds) compared to those synthesized with ordinary graphite. Boronized graphite enhances the compressive strength of diamonds primarily through the following three mechanisms:

1.Lattice distortion and pinning dislocations: Under high temperatures and pressures, as the graphite structure transforms into a diamond structure, boron atoms in the graphite replace carbon atoms in the diamond. Due to the different atomic radii of boron and carbon, this substitution causes lattice distortion, which generates pinning dislocations and enhances the diamond's strength.

2.Filling defects for a denser structure: Boron atoms have a smaller atomic radius, and their chemical activity increases rapidly at high temperatures. Therefore, during the transition from graphite to diamond, boron atoms can more easily enter the structural defects of the diamond, making its microstructure denser and thereby improving its overall strength.

3.Hindering slip and cleavage of crystal planes: Boron atoms tend to be distributed on the  plane of the diamond because they lower the energy of the growing diamond's  face. These boron atoms segregated on the  plane can effectively hinder slip and cleavage phenomena on this surface, further improving the compressive strength of the diamond.
